Crazy 4 Cult invades NYC
Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 05:06PM I'm super happy to show this off. Here is my piece for this years Crazy 4 Cult at Gallery 1988. This year they are changing stuff up with a pop-up gallery in NYC. The show goes up August 9th, from 6-9 and runs till September 1st.
I had a really hard time picking what I wanted to do for this show, I toyed with Point Break for a long time and just wasn't super happy with the results I was coming up with. I'm not sure how it happened but I sketched out a little Army of Darkness sketch and it felt right.
Army of Darkness came out in 1992, I was 13 years old. I think if you had a math problem for the movie that would be the perfect age to see it. I remember really clearly watching the trailer on tv and being super in to it, I wanted to see the movie so bad. But of course I was 13 and not able to get in to an R rated film, so I waited and walked up to my local Hollywood Video and rented it on VHS.

Anyway this started out as a fake book cover, it was going to be based on the old Dungeons & Dragons starter set. You can sorta see the basic composition is sorta the same but I ended up wanting a larger Illustration so I scrapped the book idea. It was going to say Shotguns & Boomsticks.
If you are in the New York area, head over, it should be a pretty amazing show with over 200+ artists. Hail to the king, baby!
